The A-list’s firmament of stars blazed at New York’s Lincoln Center on the June 2, as the Council of Fashion Designers of America, in collaboration with Swarovski, paid tribute to the winners of the 2014 CFDA Fashion Awards.
John Waters, the debonair film director and Baltimore’s legendary champion of the pencil moustache, played host, setting the tone for bold vision and high style. It’s the thirteenth year that Swarovski has supported the event, with actors Greta Gerwig and Sebastian Stan presenting its three awards in recognition of emerging talent. The Swarovski Award for Womenswear went to Shane Gabier and Christopher Peters for Creatures of the Wind, while the award for Menswear was presented to Tim Coppens, with Irene Neuwirth taking Accessory Design.
In the Designer of the Year category, Womenswear went to Joseph Altuzarra for Altuzarra, presented by the radiant Lupita Nyong’o, while Public School’s Maxwell Osbourne and Dao-Yi Chow took Menswear, with sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen bagging the Accessories award. Rihanna crowned the sparkling evening, accepting the Fashion Icon award from Vogue’s Anna Wintour.
