On November 7, the fashionistas were out in force in Shanghai’s Time Square to catch an avant-garde catwalk event of fabulous jewels that has been challenging convention and setting tongues wagging for a decade. The one-of-a-kind Runway Rocks catwalk show certainly didn’t disappoint, as models hit the runway wearing some of the most spectacular jewelry and body ornamentation imaginable in an explosive mash-up of creativity, art, and couture.
Luxury designer store Lane Crawford collaborated with Swarovski to present a breathtaking bonanza that featured 28 archive pieces by names such as Jean Paul Gaultier, Christopher Kane and Zaha Hadid, as well as exciting new commissions, including works by Stephen Webster, Ted Noten and Giles Deacon. Asia Pacific design talent was strongly represented by the likes of Masha Ma, Guo Pei, Huishan Zhang and Ek Thongprasert, with a poetic collection called ‘Re Love’ for Atelier Swarovski from Wang Peiyi. A futuristic cheongsam with thousands of dewdrop-like embellishments, along with a unicorn headpiece encrusted in multicolored crystals with a bold pink mane to match, were just two of the highlights on display. The show-stopping fashion parade was followed by an exhibition in the brand new Lane Crawford store, Times Square, showcasing unique jewelry pieces and art commissions using Swarovski crystals and genuine gemstones.
Once again, Runway Rocks upholds its global reputation as the ultimate in couture jewelry collections. A rare opportunity—catch it if you possibly can.
