Visitors to the World Jewelry Facets Exhibition on October 3, 2013, in the old-world elegance of Paris’s super-glam Shangri-La Hotel couldn’t fail to be mesmerized by the glittering display of astonishing jewelry designs made with Swarovski crystals, not to mention the views of the Eiffel Tower and the River Seine just beyond the windows.
Built in 1896—just one year after Daniel Swarovski founded his company—in Paris’s prestigious 16th arrondissement, the majestic Shangri-La Hotel is the former home of Prince Roland Bonaparte, grandnephew of Napoleon Bonaparte. This proved fortunate, as nothing short of grandeur on this scale could possibly have provided a suitable backdrop to the jaw-dropping array of jewelry pieces at World Jewelry Facets exhibition. Sparkling designer showpieces, side by side with commercial creations, offered classic and traditional elegance as well as moments of contemporary audacity, along a spectrum that ranged from intricately ornate, via rainbow-hued eye-candy, to minimalist sculptured sophistication.
Thirty-eight established and up-and-coming designers, drawn from every corner of the planet, teamed up with Swarovski to present dazzling pieces for the fourth edition of World Jewelry Facets—its European debut. The touring exhibition was launched in 2010, and every year delighted visitors flock to the various capital-city venues to marvel at the new commercial designs and showpieces especially commissioned by Swarovski for this dazzling event. It’s a glittering tribute to the company’s long-held philosophy of supporting and curating the finest artistry and craftsmanship worldwide. In fact, it had already caused a sensation earlier this year in Beijing, Shanghai, Las Vegas and Seoul, so the French capital was a fittingly sophisticated finale.
French designers included Alexandre Vauthier, Bijoux de Famille, Delphine-Charlotte Parmentier, Gas Bijoux, Gian Paolo Maria, Hélène Zubeldia, Jean Paul Gaultier, Kormelitz, Marie Laure Chamorel, On Aura Tout Vu, Philippe Audibert, Philippe Ferrandis, Reminiscence, Servane Gaxotte, Shourouk and Une Ligne. They joined forces with other world-class leading lights and up-and-coming talents from thirteen countries. Guests mingled among opulent offerings from the likes of Iosselliani and Marmèn, Buba, Artwear Dimitriadis, Erickson Beamon, Bibi Bijoux, Caleidoscópio, Sabrina Dehoff and Vendome Boutique. The result was a riot of eye-popping colorful chokers, earrings and bracelets, as well as intricate Art Deco-style pendants and rings and crystal-encrusted clutch bags, along with waterfall-effect collars and outrageous chest-plate necklaces.
It was a rare opportunity to experience an out-of-this-world collection of superbly innovative and desirable fashion jewelry from top international design talent, all the while sipping Champagne in arguably the most romantic of Europe’s capitals, the City of Lights.
The commercial pieces from the French designers will be in store in Spring/Summer 2014.
