The French jewelry designer launches her formidable ‘Metis’ anniversary collection.
Prestigious Parisian jewelry designer Delphine-Charlotte Parmentier’s twenty-year career, spent working alongside the biggest names in fashion, has garnered worldwide media attention. Naturally, expectations were high for her recent ‘Metis by Delphine-Charlotte Parmentier’ anniversary collection. She didn’t disappoint.
A perfect blend of vintage elegance and bohemian modernism, these beautifully bold creations embody Parmentier’s signature statement style. The dynamic chainmail-esque sections that feature on her classy earrings, collars and bracelets allow for subtle movement that catches the eye. With their diamond, square and circle shapes set off with Swarovski crystals in graphic pewter, black and silver, the pieces embody her trademark sophistication.
Par for the course for one who has been creating high-end jewelry and accessories for couture collections since graduating from Paris’s Berçot School in 1989, then going on to work for Jeanne Lanvin, Thierry Mugler and Claude Montana.
Taking inspiration from a childhood spent playing at her grandparents’ buttons and belts studio (fittingly, she went on to work with Lagerfeld’s studio to create jewelry and buttons for Chanel's cruise and couture collections), Parmentier opened her first Paris boutique in 1997, and in no time became the dernier mot in costume jewelry, creating luxurious bespoke pieces for the city’s fashion houses.
Today, all of her unique designs are entirely handcrafted by her team of Artisans in Paris using French materials, where she masterminds the fashioning of high-end ready-to-wear and bespoke collections for a stellar roll-call of designers, including Montana, Mugler, Lacroix, Lanvin, Nina Ricci, Ungaro, Chloe, Hanae Mori, Valentino, Paul & Joe, Kenzo, and Balenciaga—the list doesn’t stop there.
Delphine claims that her ideas are informed by the experience of ‘cities at night-time’, which helps contextualize the dark promise of the delicate pieces that riff on a mêlée of materials and shapes. "I love to mix metal and rope, suede and silver. And I like it when a necklace can be worn as a bracelet, or a brooch turned into a buckle."
Happy anniversary, Delphine-Charlotte Parmentier! Here’s to at least another twenty years.
