Salzburg’s traditional al fresco production of Hugo von Hofmannsthal's classic Jedermann (Everyman) is a glittering, glorious spectacle this year. Played outdoors since 1920 in the wonderfully atmospheric Cathedral Square, the play—based on late medieval morality dramas—is a much-loved highlight of the Salzburg festival.
The productions both this year and also in 2014 will be sponsored by Swarovski, who are collaborating with award-winning costume designer Olivera Gajic to create stunning light-catching jewelry and costumes. Gajic has lovingly embellished the dramatic costumes worn by Jedermann’s two female leads with thousands of crystals, creating a stunning dress, necklace, and earrings for the role of ‘Lover’, as well as a breath-taking iconographic heart for the character of Jedermann’s mother, using hand-applied crystals in ten shades of red, which seem to pulsate under the glow of the stage lights.
Brought to the stage by English stage designer and director, Julian Crouch, and American theater director, Brian Mertes, the play will run until September 1.
