There was a palpable buzz in Tokyo last month as guests gathered to marvel at this scintillating exhibition of stellar design talents from around the world.
World Jewelry Facets 2012 launched in the Japanese capital on November 22, bringing to public view an extraordinary collection of pieces made with SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS and created by visionary jewelry designers from all over the world.
The dazzling exhibition was curated at the glass-walled Tokyo City View Sky Gallery 1 in Roppongi, one of the city’s most prestigious addresses, which also houses the pioneering exhibition space, the Mori Art Museum. Celebrity guests, including Japanese actress and model Katase Nana, mingled while taking in the stunning 360-degree vista of the city, with the magnificent Tokyo Tower, Rainbow Bridge and Odaiba Island all in clear view. Jewelry pieces were ingeniously displayed in transparent crystal showcases, which made them appear to float magically against the dramatic backdrop of the Tokyo skyline.
An eclectic choice of exhibitors reflected Swarovski’s drive to encourage jewelry designers to keep dreaming and innovating. Worldwide contributors to this very classy crystalline collection included Delphine Charlotte Parmentier, Poggi, Caleidoscópio, Firefly, Tarina Tarantino, Versace, Andy Farrow, Artwear Dimitriadis, Manik Mercian, Anton Heunis, Bea Valdes, Tarun Tahiliani, Kaviar Gauche, and Malcolm Guerre, the Japanese brand that represented the host country.
Although the exhibition closed on December 2, the work of these leading-edge designers has been immortalized in the sumptuous new SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS publication, MADE WITH— a veritable altar to those versatile crystalline “drops of desire” and the creative inspiration they evoke. Presenting a treasure trove of information on the application of crystal in jewelry design, it also features astonishing examples of the myriad ways crystal has been incorporated into beautiful contemporary pieces.
