Guests at the lavish Sparkling Contrasts launch at the Andaz Shanghai last month were treated to an exhibition of fantasy footwear the likes of which few had seen before. These were not shoes as we recognize them in everyday life, but works of art created by thirteen world-class designers at the top of their game. Invited by SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS to design two pairs of contrasting yet complementary shoes, the 26 designs varied from futuristic and Punk-inspired to classic pumps and masculine brogues, by way of skyscraper platforms and jewel-bright spike heels —all glinting with crystals.
The evening of dazzling surprises started with a guided tour of the exhibition and culminated in a sumptuous gala dinner, dance performance and a stunning parade of footwear exhibits. Finally, the shoes were showcased in illuminated Perspex boxes and placed on dinner tables as centrepieces. Catch a glimpse here of some of the most unforgettable shoes in the world – they’ll be exclusively previewed during the end-of-year holiday season at La Rinascente, Milan, and Harvey Nichols, Riyadh, and then be available in Spring/Summer 2013.
The designers: Alejandro Ingelmo, Casadei, Charlotte Olympia, Gio Diev, Jerome C. Rousseau, Maison des Talons, Neorhythm, René Caovilla, Repetto, Robert Clergerie, Rupert Sanderson, Ruthie Davis, 王.
