A sumptuous new interpretation of this heartbreaking love story, directed by Carlo Carlei and scripted by Julian Fellowes, marks Swarovski Entertainment’s first foray into film production.
The stars glittered ever more brightly at Swarovski’s glamorous party held at the Majestic Beach during the Cannes Film Festival. The special promotional event marked the completion of principal photography of the first Swarovski Entertainment co-production of the new Romeo and Juliet.
Academy Award-winning screenwriter Julian Fellowes (of Downton Abbey and Gosford Park) adapted the tale of tortured love to speak to the young people of today, to open it up, make it fresh and easy to follow. Romeo and Juliet was directed by Carlo Carlei and boasts an impressive cast of both emerging and established talent. The divine Douglas Booth will play Romeo to Oscar-nominated Hailee Steinfeld’s Juliet, with Ed Westwick (Tybalt), Damian Lewis (Lord Capulet), Paul Giamatti (Friar Lawrence), Lesley Manville (Nurse), Christian Cooke (Mercutio) and Tom Wisdom (Count Paris) also doing what they do best on the silver screen. At the event, Capulet and Montague cocktails flowed all evening and later, guests left with sparkly Swarovski bracelets as mementos of the occasion. Romeo and Juliet was filmed earlier this year in Rome, Mantova and Verona and is expected to release in early 2013.
