Her detached elegance begs the question: is she of this world, or is she a time traveller from another galaxy? Gaze at her, clad in sleek, earthly garb, and wonder…
Lado Alexi has done it again. Back in January, SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS Magazine ran a series of photographs that he shot for Vogue Germany of flame-haired sirens clad in fantastical baroque jewelry, depicting the signs of the zodiac. With these still seared on our memory, we are now transfixed by another set of intriguing images from the same photographer, this time for June’s Vogue Germany.
The photographs portray a preternaturally pale model, with surreal hair and make-up by Ukraine-born Natalie Franz and styling by the supremely talented young German, Dennis Blys, evoking an android look. Her body language seems languidly aloof until one considers the assertively spiky hair and challenging, steely eyes. The clothing says slightly edgy, futuristic femme fatale. Cleverly cut, sleekly engineered designs, made from metallic fabrics by a spectrum of dazzling designers, flash with SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS, while assertive statement jewelry projects bottomless confidence. Shot against color-blocked backgrounds of intense turquoise, pink, lilac, green and yellow, amid a vast choice of glittering jewelry and gleaming outfits, the atmosphere is awash in high-luxe sparkle.
Based in Hamburg, with his formative years spent in Moscow and Paris, there ‘s apparently no limit to this man’s creative imagination. Known for the stylized, graphic extravagance of his work, this time he has served up a disquieting Blade Runner-esque vision of elegance, which gives new meaning to ‘contemporary’. Catch a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the photo-shoot in the video below.
