16 February 2012. The 56th Vienna Opera Ball, held in the splendor of the Vienna State Opera on Ringstrasse Boulevard, did not disappoint in the culture and glamour stakes.
SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS glitter like no other crystal in the world. (Prince Dimitri)
Unrivalled for its blend of romance and tradition, debutantes clad in gorgeous white ball gowns, long gloves and tiaras, on the arms of elegant young men in white tie and tails, floated among celebrities, VIPs and guests. SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS contributed to the excitement by collaborating with Prince Dimitri of Yugoslavia to create his ‘Snow Storm’ tiaras. Inspired by wind swirling through falling snow, he used crystals to capture the idea of iridescent icicles and snowflakes, creating a halo of light that transformed debutantes into snow princesses for the night.
Guests included actors Roger Moore and Brigitte Nielsen; supermodel Helena Christensen; former sportsmen Boris Becker and Lothar Matthaus; and UN chief Bang Ki-moon, in town for talks with President Heinz Fischer. French maestro Georges Pretre, Romanian soprano Angela Gheorghiu, and ballet dancers from the Vienna State Opera provided dazzling entertainment.
With beautifully attired dancers performing well-practiced quadrilles, polonaises and waltzes, it was like being transported back to the days of the Hapsburg Empire – utterly unforgettable.
