Think 1920s burlesque at Berlin’s famously debauched Eldorado club, or a scene from Cabaret: a decadent underground culture where eyes are smoky and the fashion sultry, and uncorseted, clingy flapper dresses rise daringly above the knee.
This fantastic spectacle, less a show and more a party, was what Karen Erickson and Vicki Beamon conjured up for New York Fashion Week. After 30 years of making jewelry at their workshops in Manhattan and Belgravia, this year they débuted their first ready-to-wear clothing collection for Fall/Winter 2012, using it as a stunning backdrop to show off their latest jewelry collection. Guests were treated to a performance by cabaret troupe Citizens Band, featuring Sarah Sophie Flicker and Zoe Kravitz. With models, dancers and singers clad in slinky Erickson Beamon frocks, cut on the bias with a SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS beaded overlay, it’s definitely up there among the most exhilarating shows all week.
