When the legendary rock star Tina Turner makes an appearance on the red carpet, you can be certain that it’s a major event. And when she’s followed by a bevy of original supermodels, you know that the carpet has been rolled out in honor of fashion royalty. On this occasion, it was the man who invented contemporary fashion photography, Peter Lindbergh.
On Friday, September 9, fashion fans watched the stars descend on the Kunsthal Rotterdam for the preview of the international touring exhibition, Peter Lindbergh: A Different Vision on Fashion Photography. Long-time Lindbergh friend Tina Turner rocked a black pantsuit, while supermodel Nadja Auermann and daughter Cosima both sparkled in jewelry from Swarovski and Atelier Swarovski, with Cosima in a crystal-embellished blouse from Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture. Dutch model Elisa Hupkes—photographed by Lindbergh at the Port of Rotterdam for the retrospective, and appearing in Vogue Nederland’s October issue—shone in a Swarovski crystal cuff, while fellow supermodel Karen Alexander looked equally ravishing in Swarovski cuff and earrings. Italian photographer Paolo Roversi and music video/film director/photographer Anton Corbijn joined them. The party then moved over to City Hall for a glamorous dinner hosted by the Mayor of Rotterdam and Kunsthal Director Emily Ansenk.
Saturday the 10th saw yet more fashion glitterati arrive for the exclusive exhibition opening: Milla Jovovich, in crystallized Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture, was sensational, her vintage Daniel Swarovski clutch and earrings by Rosie Assoulin from Atelier Swarovski providing the perfect finishing touches. With dazzle like that, it’s no coincidence that Karen Alexander also chose to accessorize with Rosie Assoulin earrings and a Swarovski clutch. And gorgeous double-act, Nadja and Cosima Auermann, wowed once again, with Nadja in a Haider Ackermann jacket glittering with crystals, and both women in Kalix earrings from the Atelier Swarovski Core Collection.
However, nothing and no one stole the show from Lindbergh’s images. Every guest was fascinated by the hundreds of timeless black-and-white images featuring his trademark uninhibited realism, plus never-before-seen photographs, personal notes, storyboards, props, Polaroids, contact sheets, films and monumental prints. If you haven’t yet booked your city break, put Rotterdam at the top of your list and get a ticket for this must-see show.
