Unusually, Dubai native Fatma Husam didn’t know she was interested in fashion until she started studying Aviation Management at Emirates Aviation University. “We wore uniforms at school, but when I began dressing up for university it became my favorite part of the day. I spent more time picking what to wear than studying!” At first she was Instagraming like any other girl, posting pictures of food and random things. When she posted an outfit it always got such a big response that her blogging grew from there, until in 2016 she was named as one of Harper’s Bazaar’s ‘Best Dressed’. Black, white and nude are her signature colors, her silhouette an elegant “loose on loose” rather than too revealing. It’s a philosophy she applies to her personal life, too, preferring to focus on the fashion. It comes as no surprise that Coco Chanel is her style icon: “She revolutionized the fashion industry, introducing the concept of loose, comfortable and elegant.” Fatma is in her senior year at university, and while we wish her the best of luck with her final studies, we can’t help but hope that fashion won’t lose this talented young woman to the skies!
Ultimate wardrobe essential? “Long white shirts—you can wear one casually, or dress it up.”
Favorite experience during the shoot? “I spent my 22nd birthday there, and the Swarovski team surprised me with a cake during lunch!”
