After the Fashion Week frenzy, it’ll soon be time to honor the cream of US fashion again, at the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Fashion Awards. The night of March 16, 2016, saw anticipation rise when the nominees were announced at an exclusive champagne reception hosted by Diane von Furstenberg and Nadja Swarovski at the New Museum in NYC. Surrounded by crystalline décor, guests—among them, Anna Wintour—were treated to delicious hors d’oeuvres, while DJ May Kwok created the evening’s soundtrack wearing a crystal-encrusted Tome outfit from the Fall/Winter 2016 collection enhanced with Atelier Swarovski jewelry. CFDA President and CEO Steven Kolb announced that this year had seen a record number of nominations; and everyone was delighted to hear that David Bowie will posthumously receive the Board of Directors’ Tribute Award.
So, while we await the opening of the CFDA Swarovski Awards envelopes (given for emerging talent) at the Hammerstein Ballroom on June 6, any of these deserving nominees could be the names found inside:
Swarovski Award for Womenswear: Brandon Maxwell, Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia for Monse; plus Ryan Roche.
Swarovski Award for Menswear: John Elliott; Rio Uribe for Gypsy Sport; plus Alex Orley, Matthew Orley and Samantha Orley for Orley.
Swarovski Award for Accessory Design: Aurora James for Brother Vellies; Gigi Burris; and Paul Andrew.
Good luck, all!
