Water isn’t just the planet’s most precious resource—it’s essential to the manufacture of our favorite sparkling fashion ingredient, too. That’s why respect for the environment has been close to Swarovski’s heart since it first began in 1895. It’s also why we’re very proud to be celebrating Swarovski Waterschool program’s 15th anniversary this year.
The Swarovski Waterschool program was developed in Austria in partnership with Hohe Tauern National Park, where it was implemented at the schools within the National Park regions of Tyrol, Salzburg and Carinthia. Over the years, the program has been extended to schools along the basins of the world’s largest rivers: the Danube, the Ganges, the Yangtze, the Nile, and the Amazon. Since the beginning, all Waterschool programs have been conducted in partnership with NGOs that have knowledge of the local communities and the environmental challenges facing them.
The results have been inspirational: so far, hundreds of thousands of children have learned about the ecological, economic, social and cultural issues that affect water usage on a local and global level. What’s more, Swarovski has enabled clean drinking water and sanitation to be delivered to a multitude of schools and communities around the world. Now, that’s something worth celebrating.
