The global marketplace has not only brought a radical change in our sense of space, but an incredible generational shift, too. Changing perceptions of age see the generations converge, as young and old enjoy the same pastimes, swap clothes, share music, and network as never before. Swarovski takes the leading edge with its crystal innovations for Spring/Summer 2015: under the title, ‘Traces of Time’, it unveils a remarkably inventive collection of cuts, colors, and effects. These stunning new materials will inspire designers in the quest to realize their creative vision for society’s new intergenerational future in fashion.
This season’s palette features monochromatic opaque finishes, tone-on-tone shades, and opal hues in asymmetric designs that mix crystals, acrylic, and pearls. Inspired by architectural forms, it’s brilliantly future-vintage. Crystal Iridescent Green, a metallic blue-green dual-tone effect, and Crystal Iridescent Green Pearl’s gold-green, semi-matt pearl coating illustrate the aesthetic. Alongside shimmering greens, there’s the wonderfully innovative Tangerine, the result of outstanding technical development at Swarovski: inspired by the Mandarin garnet gemstone, it brings to mind sublime sunsets.
Next year’s Spring/Summer jewelry and accessories feature ancient patterns reworked in sparkling crystal. Pendants and BeCharmed Beads assume the feel of tribal treasures, while Fancy Stones appear in culture-clash colors and shapes, producing a kaleidoscope of striking patterns. The eye-catching new Cushion Fancy Stone shines out with confident elegance, while the sculptural chaton-cut XIRIUS Raindrop Pendant demands fabulous statement pieces. For adding fascinating shimmer to creations across the design spectrum, nothing beats the new Pavé Balls’ myriad tiny spherical crystals. And for a masterpiece of crystal design, the supremely complex cut of the darkly glamorous Skull Bead is a guaranteed head-turner every time it’s worn.
Swarovski’s final ‘future-shock’ addition to the assortment for Spring/Summer 2015 ironically harks back to our primeval past. The Crystalactite Pendant, created in collaboration with those ‘avant-gardians’ of couture, Maison Martin Margiela for Swarovski, is now available as easy-to-apply Grand and Petite Pendants. Its startlingly irregular form, inspired by ancient icicle shapes, ramps glamour up to the next level for 2015.
