Bella Freud, Marios Schwab and Nadja Swarovski at the Swarovski Whitechapel Gallery Art Plus Fashion gala.
Some of the UK’s biggest and baddest contemporary artists were spotted partying with the fashion glitterati down at London’s Whitechapel Gallery on March 14.
The occasion was the Swarovski Whitechapel Gallery Art Plus Fashion gala, dedicated to showing off the next generation's talents and raising funds for the gallery’s education program. Hotly tipped rising stars Sabina Bryntesson, Craig Green, Trine Hav Christensen and Hiroaki Kanai took center-stage with their new crystal-inspired collections in the first catwalk show ever seen there. Models strutted a crystal-shaped runway against a backdrop of mesmerizing, large-scale visuals by emerging artists, before it was brought to a close in a spectacular UV-lit finale. Works by Corinne Day, a delicate Giles Deacon watercolor, and a rare signed edition of a Vivienne Westwood publication went under the hammer at the evening’s lively auction. The outcome raised a tremendous £348,600 to go towards the education program, which works with young people and local community groups.
